Biography
I worked in the Web and Internet Science research group at the University of Southampton. Where I had a rich and full job description which combined software development, research, writing publications, presenting at conferences and teaching undergraduate students.
From there I joined iSolutions as a software engineer writing a wide variety of languages but mainly PHP. This work involved maintenance of some legacy systems while developing new ones.
I became team leader of Technical Innovation and Development team which gave me considerable line management experience. My aim was to make software development as low friction for the team as possible and this involved negotiating with a lot of other teams and some times budget holders. Over the time I was leader the team dramatically improved it's working practices to the point where it was setting the standard for software engineering in the organisation.
I have recently been building my experience as a systems engineer working in Enterprise Systems Management. The work is interesting and I feel like my primary contribution has really been to document some of the systems and processes to ensure they are easy for new starters and non-experts to do more of.
